The answer is yes and no.  The SS has the full IBM 8-bit character set
in its ROM.  The Apple only uses a 7-bit charcter set (lets not get in
the argument that there is a high-bit and low-bit characters set in
Apple's 80 column text mode--one is inverse and contains mouse text and
the other is the 7-bit ascii).  The Apple II text screen when emulated
won't show any of the IBM hi-bit characters.  But, you could turn on
the SS "IBM video mode" and display any IBM text charcters, including
the boxes, math symbols, and international characters.  This has to
be done through a machine language program.
