ZIP logic gates

Now I'm mad.  I just got my 74HC00 & 74HC02 gates from digi-key today, 
and when I put them on my Zip, the GS won't even boot.  There's garbage 
all over the screen.  I don't get it!  The part number is right from the 
FAQ...  
 
MM74HC00N-ND    &    MM74HC02N-ND
 
What is going on?  Why can't I use these things?
