Synchronized tracks, and a nibble count track on each side. The
protection is discussed in Computist #20 p.27. Nothing exotic, but
I had to fiddle with the drive speed to make a bit copy that worked.
Wizardry 2: Knight of Diamonds uses a similar protection.

Great idea. Too bad my sector-editing notes are inaccessible. After I
won the game, I used a sector editor to figure out how the character
information was stored. This was as much fun as the game itself.
