A couple of months back, the internal CD-ROM drive in my brother's
486 PC started acting flaky and then just stopped accessing discs altogether.
Now, without even making an attempt to figure out _why_, he's decided to toss
it away and replace it with a single speed IDE CD-ROM drive. Which brings me
to my question, is there a chance this might work on my Apple IIgs connected
up to a RamFAST SCSI interface? And if so, and assuming I can fix it, where
could I find an external enclosure, powersupply and SCSI connector?
It's a NEC CDR-84J double-speed CD-ROM, SCSI I believe, although
I'm not 100% sure. It's been connected to a PAS16 sound card (supports SCSI)
and looking through NEC's manual, there's a mention of SCSI ID selectors and
a 50-pin I/O bus connector.
