No, you just keep around a flag saying whether each program can
handle SS modes or not. If it can handle the SS, assume that graphics
are in 640x400 (or 640x480, pretty close) aspect ratio. If not, double
each line in the graphics to go from x200 to x400. That'll make it
look almost exactly as it is now.
But, if the user wants a desktop twice as high, they could accept
everything looking pretty short. The bottom line is that doubling
shapes vertically is no problem whatsoever to anyone who can code a
replacement QD.
