I assume you mean the monitor settings accessible from a 4 finger salute? 
The only reason for that is that Europe runs on 60Hz, whereas the US (and 
Canada I beleive) run on 50. Or I might have gotten those switched 
around. Never was too good at electronics!

If you ever plan on taking your GS to England with you, it's a nice 
feature to have.

At least, I think this is the reason. It's been a while since I've 
bothered to look into the manual about this. I don't think I've ever 
really messed with it! :)
