II Alive

GS+ MAGAZINE CANNOT SPEAK FOR II ALIVE!
Some of you have drawn my attention to the fact that the GS+ Magazine FAQ
makes this claim: "Note that according to Quality Computers, no new
subscriptions or renewals are being accepted for II Alive."
This statement is not accurate. It should read "Note that according to
the ORDER DEPARTMENT at Quality Computers...." Steven Disbrow, publisher
and editor of GS+ Magazine, has spoken to the ORDER DEPARTMENT, not the
publisher of II Alive. The order department has been known to get this a
bit wrong. This happened on GEnie recently, and Bill Carver of Quality
Computers had to set them right.
It IS true that some subscribers have been told, again, by the order
department, that new subscriptions and renewals are not being taken. The
exact number of subscribers who have been told this, large or small, is
immaterial, if the order department has got it wrong. I stress that all
GS+ Magazine has to base their claim on are the reports of some
subscribers and his personal experience with the order department.
(I've attempted to handle this in E-mail, but haven't been able to make
the publisher of GS+ see the distinction between the publisher of II Alive
and the Quality Computers order department. Maybe I should try explaining
it to operations director Bob Ribaric instead? :-)
Quality Computers has not made a statement about new subscriptions or
renewals. Jerry Kindall, former editor of II Alive, has not made a
statement. I myself, current editor of II Alive, have made no statement.
All else is rumour... yes, even if it comes from the ordering department.
They're not infallible.
What Jerry Kindall _has_ said (on GEnie) is that II Alive will continue to
be published every second month for approximately another year AT LEAST.
He has said it will be published in a shorter form. Finally, he has said
that the March/April issue (Vol 3 No 1) is running so late that it will
probably be labelled May/June, with apologies for the delay.
I'm not trying to mislead anyone. I've been with Quality Computers less
than a month, and as the mere editor, I simply don't know yet what the
publisher plans to do with II Alive. It is POSSIBLE that the multiple
reports of the order department turning away subscriptions and renewals
are NOT in error. Please wait for II Alive's publisher to say so, though,
okay? And if it turns out to be true, please don't jump to any
conclusions.
Steven Disbrow is in the unenviable position of being both publisher and
editor of GS+ Magazine. I think perhaps that, wearing his publisher's
hat, he has allowed his eagerness to promote his magazine to jump the gun
on verifying a story (wearing his editor's hat)... or perhaps merely fail
to make an important distinction.
I understand why and how GS+ Magazine came to their conclusions. I feel
that they are premature. If I, as editor, of II Alive do not KNOW what is
going on with II Alive, then GS+ Magazine cannot possibly now.
