"the custom apple and other mysteries", by winfred hofacker &
ekkeharf floegel. this book details a general purpose 'i/o' card with
chapters devoted to specific applications, such as sound, a/d & d/a,
driving stepper motors, and even an eprom burner. artwork is included for
making the basic card.
