Re: LCD for IIc?
When the //c was introduced, there were three peripherals which were
supposed to go with it. They were...
a. The Monitor //c--
A green monochrome composite display, fairly elfin and lightweight
like the //c. To make it work _well_ with the //c, though, you really
have to have the stand as well...a big cast-iron contraption that weighs
about twice as much as the monitor, and ten times as much as the computer!
b. The Scribe printer--
This was a thermal printer, Apple's first attempt at a color printer.
The output was really quite good, especially on plain paper using the
wax-based thermal transfer ribbons. Trouble came, though, when you
tried to print color...the ribbons were one-time and rather short!
c. The LCD flat-panel display. This was NOT, in fact, released when the
computer came out, but it was ultimately released. Most of the reviews
I read about it at the time were rather negative, indicating that the
display came too close to the edges of the screen, was hard to read, etc.
I should also mention that portability was the reason Apple went for the
power brick instead of an internal power-supply for the //c...makes it as
easy to hook up a battery pack as a power brick. But the idea of a //c as
a portable computer never really seemed to catch on.
On the other hand, I have the //gs at home...it seems to me that then
travelling it might be nice to have a //c and a little portable
black-and-white monitor (or the LCD panel) so that I could create files
for my home computer. Hey...the //c WILL run AppleWriter!
(AppleWorks, too, for that matter...)
