ClarisWorks has translators for AppleWorks 3.0 but not specifically for
AWGS. The two products are very different. There is generally not a
problem with word processing or spreadsheet documents but the file format
for databases between the two are vastly different.

In a nutshell, what you'll have to tell your father-in-law is to save his
database documents as a DIF or text file from AWGS BEFORE he transfers it
over to the Mac. These are standard exchange formats that should allow
him to import his data into most database products including ClarisWorks.
