The GS+ guys have Newton(s).  You should ask them if they have any
plans for interface software.  The original Newton Connection Kit
required a 68020 processor or better.  Thay means a "cheap" Mac, (Plus
or SE) will not work with version 1.0.  Version 2.0 is currently
available and I do not know what processor it requires.

There are downloaders available at Newton sites that will run on an SE.
 That will let you get packages into the Newton, but not synchronize
the Newton with your Mac.  Synchronization will back up all the data in
the Newton to the Mac.
