Are you sure the mother board is "fried"?? Are there burned components on
it, or burned conductors?? If so, the most likely fix is a new mother
board (available from several venders).
SAMS ComputerFacts, folder CC10, for the Apple IIe, contains schematics
and trouble shooting info For the IIe and theDisk II. Howard W. Sams,
800-428-SAMS. Of course, you have to be a technician to read the
schematics. And, You need a scope to make the described tests.
The first thing to check is the power supply If you do not know the plug
connections, look on the power supple case (the info should be there).
The two black wires are ground (as I recall). Also, a good ground point
is at the shield of the video socket. Don't rely on the power supply
case, nor the Apple case for ground. Check at the power supply plug for
+5v, -5v, +12v, -12v. When you turn on the computer on, the indicator
light and the red LED should light up. If they do not, the power supply
most likeky is dead. Replae ment power supplies are available from
several sources.
If the RAMs were inserted backword, then probably they are zapped. Was
it really RAMs being replaced and not ROMs. Well, if the ROMs are bad,
they are available too.
If I can be of further help, contact me by email or phone.
