A major hack, indeed. Pretty much a re-write. You'd be better
off to switch to someting like Exodus or XTS.

About the only way to do it would be to put the cdrom drive
on an appletalk'd mac. Boot the IIgs via gsos with appletalk 
setup then launch metal.

I used to do the above (except with a hard drive, not a cdrom)
when I had my powerbook so that I could grab files off of it
from work through the bbs.

Also - just to mention. I think proline (either modemworks, mdbasic
or maybe both?) works with Appletalk, so Metal really wouldn't be
the only way to do this.
