The original motherboard (256k, ROM 0/1) has a position for the
connector. The connector was installed in many early motherboards,
but later ones (and many early ones shipped in IIgs cases) only had
the connector position.

There is no way to connect a IIe keyboard to the later motherboard (1
MB, ROM 3).

It is also worth pointing out that the IIe keyboard is _not_ ADB
compatible. It is scanned directly by the keyboard micro, and
keypresses are generated in the same way as an ADB keyboard, but
ADB-specific utilities such as Easy Access will not work with it, and
the numeric keypad (if present) cannot be distinguished by software
from the main keyboard number keys. This can be a serious limitation
if a program uses the numeric keypad for special functions (e.g. some
games).
