apple assembly?

hi,

i have an old apple][e that i'd like to do some assembly language 
programming with. it was my first computer and back then i wasn't much 
interested in languages. i currently enjoy pc asm as a hobby and am 
interested in exploring different architectures.

when we moved (a couple of months ago) i decided against throwing my 
apple out on the hope that i would find an assembler for it. i've 
searched high and low but can't seem to find one (or anyone on the net 
who talks about it)

i'm not sure if it's the 6502 or the 65C02.

i might consider using basic but i'd much prefer asm. if anyone knows of 
a good assembler that i can get my hands on (even for a respectable 
price), an ftp site, someone who will post a zip in comp.binaries.apple2 
or even a cross compiler for the pc, please reply here or directly by e-mail.

also, some literature on the subject with or without the assembler would 
be appreciated (such as gpr info, addressing modes, op size, instruction 
set...)

i'd be more than happy to investigate any leads, thank you.
