I encountered this identical seeming problem. In my case
a working solution (whether "correct" or not I don't know,
but it worked) was to add a pass-through terminator between
the CPU/card and the first (non-terminated) drive. With my
High-Speed SCSI i _always_ have the first and last devices
terminated, ignoring whether the card itself is terminated.
The manual claims it is, but I can't find any resistor
looking components on the card.
