ID Software also stated there would be no IIgs port of
Wolfenstein 3-D, I had a long dicussion with John Carmack (president
and head programmer of ID) on the subject. That is, they *themselves*
refuse to do any Apple IIgs ports of their games, due to the small
market size and hassle of overcoming it's limitations (yes, they
used to be IIGS programmers for SoftDisk GS, though have long since
lost interest in the machine). I'm still not sure how Wolf 3-D got
licensed, seeing as a fee of $10,000 was wanted for the rights to
port it. Which of course, assuming a 3rd party ports DOOM for the IIGS
(which in itself is a long shot) there would still be a matter of getting
it licensed. The whole concept of Wolf 3-D was though impossible on the
GS a few months ago, yet here it is! Let's hope the same somehow happens
to DOOM! :-)
