what color is your periwinkle?

I've been helping a buddy who is new to IIgs-dom set up a system. He has a ROM
01 and just added an RGB monitor. I noticed that the desktop is a lot lighter
shade of blue than mine. I also have the problem of having to turn up the 
brightness and contrast when the monitor is cold, then turn them down as it 
warms up. He says he doesn't have to fiddle with the knobs at all. I suspect
that my monitor has the flyback transformer problem that I've read about here.
Also my machine is a ROM 3 but I don't figure that this is a factor. The 
monitor is a March '87 vintage. Can anyone explain the difference in color and
the need to adjust the monitor all the time? It is in fairly close proximity to
the 16" trinitron monitor connected to my Quadra, but not close enough to cause
interference. The 16" gets weird when they are too close.
