I used to have one of those that I safety wired a straigtened
paperclip to, with a pushpin head stuck on it. I mounted the
controller card from a UniDisk 3.5" to the top of the drive and made a
slot for the ribbon cable to pass in to the drive assembly.

I think it was because the eject motor was bad on the drive as well,
but that was how I used the drive assembly on a //e for quite a few
years. Looked ghetto but worked perfectly.
