Re: Data from Apple2->IBM?
What kind of printer hooks up to the Apple printer port?
If the printer port is a DB25, take a look under the hood and see what
sort of card it is connected to. If it is a 'SERIAL INTERFACE' or (better
still) SUPER SERIAL CARD, then you are in luck. By hooking up the
null-modem cable you describe, you should be able to get data to move back
and forth between the computers. The easiest way is to come up with a
communications program at each end, and blast data through that way.
What may stand in your way is the fact that for many many years, (until
the introduction of the Apple Scribe and Imagewriter printers), NOBODY
used serial printers for Apple ]['s. And the Apple ]['s (excepting the
//c and IIgs) do not have any native ports except the game connector.
If the printer port consists of a long ribbon cable sticking out the back
of the machine, it's probably a parallel port, and you're stuck.
Oh, and if you do have a Super Serial Card, you may have to change a mode
switch on the card. There is a null-modem built into the card (a gizmo
which looks a lot like a chip with an arrow painted on it), but if you
have a null-modem adapter, you don't need to worry about it.
I hope that gets you started; give us some more details, and we'll get you
rolling!
Happy data-blasting!
