There are only 2 "real" back up software that backs up to tape/DATs.
RamFAST SCSI's built-in tape back up program (usable basic feature
program), or Tim Grams GSTape backup.  GSTape can do incremental
backup, among other things (can't remember right now).  Owners
of GSTape all are happy with it.  You can reach tim at

BTW, I have a new Maxtor 540 MB for $300...  see my other post in
comp.sys.apple2.marketplace.  I also happen (gee :) to have a 
external 250 MB SCSI tape drive for sale, send me mail if interested.

Since your HD space isn't too huge, you might also consider getting
a floptical drive (which I also happen to...  no I don't :-)...
If case you don't know, they hold 21 MB each.
