I've run my 14.4k with Zlink at 19,200 without problems (during file
transfer, anyway, things got messed up with large text dumps but that was
the other end [I think])

What you are describing may be a terminal emulation problem instead of
a hardware character loss problem.

I believe there is a utility (or part of Proterm, and also a CDA called
TinyTalk) that will crank the speed up to 57,600. The machine can handle
9600 for sure, and 19,200 without any problems.
