Currently, SCSI controllers are the main way to go for hard drives.
I recommend a RamFAST; you might need someone who's used one before
to set it up, but it flies! :-)

GS/OS is up to 6.0.1, and is available from user groups and ftp.apple.com.

Um, can't help you much there. I do most work in AppleWorks 4.02, and
for font stuff, I use Teach (a free wp that comes with Sys 6.0.1, and
isn't very good) because I'm currently a starving college student myself
and can afford not much else. (If anyone out there would like me to
work on a better wp, they're certainly welcome to send me one :-).
