Hello--
I have an //e which has a problem with it's Disk ][ drive- when I boot
the computer, the drive head does make the recalibrate noise- but rather
soft sounding- and with a disk in (and many others), it doesent seem to
do anything. I took the cover off of the drive, and manually turned the
stepper motor to manually set the R/W head to track 0. When I turned on
the power, it seems to read that track, then attempts to move the head to
the next track, on it's way to booting up.
Instead of smoothly stepping to the next track, the R/W arm simply
attempts to move, but instead makes the classic "bzzzz" (oops, I left the
drive door open) error sound, and never boots up.. It just keeps trying
to move the arm over and over. you would think it's a problem with the
drive, so I went and bought a second, used disk ][ drive. It does the
EXACT SAME THING as the first. unless both drives are shot, I was thinking
that it could be the disk controller card.. what else could it be???
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
