I've found that GSQWK & MNGR combine to make an excellent QWK 'reader only'
package.
MNGR (Magic News Group Reader) is a set of Appleworks macros for reading Usenet
newsgroups. The newsgroups must come from a BBS running Proline. However if you
record a macro that reformats the message headers then non-Proline files become
MNGR compatible.
Save your macro as a task file. Then you can use a shell script (GNO, ORCA,
etc) to chain together applications so that the whole process runs as a single
pseudo app. I use a PROSEL-16 script to:
A. Unzip the downloaded QWK packet (run PMP UNZIP)
B. Convert the messages.dat file to a non-Proline text file (run GSQWK)
_
C. Launch Appleworks |
Reformat the non-Proline text file |-> Run Appleworks taskfile
Engage MNGR _|
MNGR is shareware - $6 fee. Specify whether you need AW3 or AW4.x version. I
have nothing to do with MNGR other than being a satisfied customer.
