It would indeed be a great loss for the Apple II community if, due to
Dr. Tom's actions, Grind were to shut down. Hopefully, though, such
actions have, for now, been deferred. From previous encounters with Dr.
Tom, it is clear to see that this person does not at all consider the
results of his doings. So, as a result of this latest round of ammo
from the 1WSW leader, the reputation of both him, and the group, sinks
even lower than thought possible.
I am not positive, but I have every reason to believe that Dr. Tom now
has Internet access, and unless I'm totally mistaken, I'm willing to bet
my IIgs that he himself uploaded this hacked source code to Grind. So,
if anyone's at fault here, it's Dr. Tom. Dr. Tom seems to be out to get
Ian Schmidt, for some reason, and appears to not stop at anything to do
it.
First, and most importantly, I side with neither party at this point--it
is not my business to flame anyone. I certainly have more important
uses for my time. Second, such actions between two parties do not
belong out in the open, where they can hurt others not involved, in this
case, Grind and the Apple II community.
On GEnie, the person who uploaded a given file has the ability to remove
that file if he or she so desires. It probably would be a good thing if
you could do it on FTP as well, (like you could convince Dr. Tom to
remove his own files, right)?
Seeing what I have seen in the past 9 months has left me with absolutely
no respect for Dr. Tom, or his actions. What he has done this time has
personally effected me, since I actually gave my time to assist 1WSW.
In closing, I sincerely hope that Grind can continue to serve the Apple
II community. It is most unfortunate that these little situations have
to keep arising, but I suppose they must.
Let us all move forward, forget the unpleasantness that has befallen us,
and make the Apple II community stronger. Be proud of your Apple!
