WDC Chip rumor

my previous message(s) about the WDC chip orders, under terms stated in

To whom it may concern;
 
I received this in an Internet letter to me today:

I just got off of the phone with Linda at WDC, and she says that this is
_NOT_ true.  At this point, they have about 400 of the chips in stock
(although if a company comes in and buys the whole lot, that will change
;), and the price remains $19.80, no schmoo plot available.  She says that
IF they decide to attempt to improve the chip further, that THEN they will
have another -E (engineering or experimental) chip and will charge $95 for
it and will provide a schmoo plot.
 
Also, I understand that there are a people out there saying they have run
this chip at 20 mhz.  Bull pucky!  Linda says that the first order of 10
being shipped today (8/19/94) to me is the very first order to be sent of
these chips.  IN OTHER WORDS, there are no other _RATED_ -14 chips out
there AT ALL.  Anyone who says they have one already, and is running it at
no matter what speed, is NOT BEING TRUTHFUL, so take anything else they may
say with all the salt you can find.  I _did_ say in _my_ post that it was
_rumored_ that this chip was able to handle 20 mhz, but that it was not
confirmed.
 
Also in the letter:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell everyone who is thinking of doing this to
NOT DO IT.  We do not want to get WDC upset at us for such an unfounded
rumor, they might decide to just not deal with small concerns or
individuals ever again, and then we would ALL be up a creek without a roll
of toilet paper.  Linda said that last time they had over 1200 inquiries
about the experimental chips.... imagine what that does to a daily routine
at a company, especially when most of those probably never bought their
product, so it was totally wasted time for them.  Have some discernment
between rumors and fact, and verify your that someone else's "facts" are
really facts before flying off the handle.
