I have tracked down the problem. It is sort of a cross between RTFM and
not having a concise manual to work from. The monitor was not hooked up
thee way it should be and the system wasn't as locked as I thought. I was
just unable to see what the machine was doing.
Thanks to all who responded. It helped me track down and work out what
the problem was. And who says the net is nothing but noise? :-)
