From the Finder, go to the special menu, and select preferences.
You'll have the option of not checking your 5.25" disks on start,
only when you manually click on them. I'm not sure if this applies
to DuoDisks as well; if not, apple mucked up.
I found the constant (glacial) polling of 5.25" disks at a lot of
times, especially in Standard File dialogs that I just deactivated the
5.25" driver on my boot disk. If I want to use them, I either drop
into P8, or reactivate the driver. In any case, except for things that
can't be Dos 3.3 Launcher'd, I find 5.25" disks rather annoying
now. :)
