Stero Card for the GS
Hello all
Well, a few weeks ago, I posted an article asking about stereo cards
for the GS. Well, the respons was huge. Anyway, I am now seriously
thinking about building a stereo card for the GS. By the looks of it,
it should be relatively easy.
I intend to build the card with 8 channel output (that's right, so that
you can connect 8 speakers up). This means surround sound if you want
to program it properly. I may, if a friend agrees, release some
software with it (don't hold your breath).
Anyway, from the responses that I go, other people would like to get a
hold of this card, if it is cheap. Well, I think I can accomidate this.
What I think I will do, is make the printed circuit boards (I have
access to these facilities), and make a component list, a complete
instruction guid, and perhaps a hypercard/studio program, showing how to
make the board. Then I will ship all of this to you, and then you can
purchase the bits yourself, and solder it your self... much more fun
than having it made for you. The soldering will not be hard (it never
is), and if people really have difficulty with this, I may solder them
up for some people (for a small fee).
Anyway, the final result is: a board will hopefully be made, and YOU
can get one two, if they work.
Into this board, I am intending to build decent filters, to make a
decent stereo card. I will not amplify the output past 5v (enough to
run small speakers, and headphones), as this seems pointless. If you
want to use bigger speakers, go and buy amplified speakers, and save me
the hassles of building the amplification circuit. I also beleive that
this is a better way to go, as it allows you to decide to what
amplification you want the signal (instead of being stuck with what I
think is OK).
Finally, I hope to have this made soon (about 3 months if all goes
well), so if you would like one, or wish to offer support, feel free to
mail me at stu@aerodec.anu.edu.au.
Thanks for all the support I have received.
