I agree with you 100% here, Eric.
The machines' market is dead. It's been proved over and over.
You cannot make a living off of selling Apple II-based
software. Sorry guys, it just ain't gonna cut it anymore.
I will *ALWAYS* support the II series though. I don't wanna
pay a large sum of $ for a program, nor am I going to pay
a huge sum of $ for a damn SCSI card, or any other hardware
for that matter.
: I honestly cannot fathom why anyone would try to make a living writing
: code on a 65c02 (besides maybe a comunications program)
Erm... 65c02, or 65c816, IMHO. The entire point of most
of the free-based programming groups is to keep the
machine alive. It's the reason we're *NOT* charging for
our utils or programs: Because we KNOW no one's going
to pay us. The # of people who pay shareware these days
is depleting so quickly it's not even funny. Hell, I admit
straight off: I've *NEVER* paid any shareware fees. Never.
There's also a lot of those programs which say "Delete
me in 10 days" which I haven't deleted.
Shareware fees, when they were introduced, were around
$1 to $5 bucks. Now? Oh gee, gotta boost that price up to
$20 or $30 there, gotta try to make a living off of my
software.
Bzzzzt.

: have long since made their money off of them, and if they were still
: interested in making money, they WOULD find a way to market them
Mm... I'm not going to say anything about the piracy issue,
for the fact that i'm just not going to say anything about it.
...but yeah. To keep these machines alive, we need dedication.
Not this "Well, i'm happy to program for the IIGS, but hey,
I need $ to want to do it" - BZZZZZT. WRONG ANSWER, GUYS.
The correct answer is: "Well, i'm thrilled to program for
the IIGS... No $, no nothing. I do it because I wanna see
the machine live."
Where's the damn FTA when we need them to follow-up posts, eh?
Olivier, come back! ;-)
