Opale from Brutal Deluxe
I just finished viewing Opale, and am quite impressed with it. Reminded
me a lot of the UFO: Enemy Unknown/XCOM intro by MicroProse. Of course,
my unaccelerated GS slowed the demo down a bit, and I did notice some
hiccups in the music, even though the demo ran off the ramdisk.
I'm also glad that the Phoenix Project is beginning to produce something
substantial, in such short amount of time too. Kudos to Richard King and
other P.P. members.
The actual game play of Opale has me confused though. Will it be a
"iconic adventure" game, like the good old "Borrowed Time" was on the
II, and other ICOM Simulation games, or will it be an arcade game, as
the "fight scene" seems to suggest? Or a combination of a lot of elements?
I am still "more" impressed with BurgerBill's Out Of This World, since
the polygon animation seemed smoother than bitmapped animation (perhaps
it's because my GS is unaccelerated.)
In any case, Opale is impressive, and congrats to Brutal Deluxe and
Flatline. Keep up the good work.
