I would think so, but without seeing the monitors in question there's no way
to tell. If they were indeed compatible, CRT transplantation would still be
fairly tricky and potentially quite dangerous, and there's no guarantee you
wouldn't knock the yoke out of whack and end up with two monitors with an
awful picture :)

The brightness problem could very well be a misadjusted screen drive control.
If not that, then we're talking probably nasty repairs to the high voltage
power supply (nasty in terms of the voltages involved :)

If it does that consistantly (ie, each time you plug it in it does that) than
chances are it had the flyback solder joint problem and dropping it made it
lose connection entirely. Check and see if you can see the CRT filaments
glowing after the LED goes out; if so that's probably it.
