:    Putting an Apple on its side may not be too good for the cards
: inside.  IBM cards are held down at both ends (unless they're the mini
: boards) by clips and screws. That way, they can be put on their side
: without any undue harm. But, Apple II cards aren't secured at the
: other end, so gravity may cause some strain on the cards. Be careful,

You could try installing a strip of 3/4" thick weather stripping across 
the inside top of the case; that should be thick enough to grip the cards 
when the top is in place, and should ease the gravity strain.
