The "ROM 3" (at least, my one) has System 5.0.0 in ROM, not 5.0.4.

I agree with them.  

I think the motherboard was rearranged somewhat to improve the
isolation between the digital and analog sections.  There is still
audible noise in a ROM 3 with headphones or a stereo card, but it is
much better than a ROM 1.
