This is indeed true, for both ROM versions I hear.  Mine is a ROM 3, not a 
ROM 03, so...

This is also supposed to be true, but I think it was done with both ROM 3/03
revisions (if there actually were 2 of them).  Apple claims it has less 
'noise' and sounds better than the Ensoniq in the ROM 01.

I don't know where you heard this little bit, but it works fine on my
system AND they all say/scream/shout "Apple II!" very clearly! :)
