Hate to admit it, but from what I know of the SNES he's right on the
money. A 8 MHz Zip or TWGS IIgs could probably run it at a decent
speed, but that cuts your market even more, and you'd still have to
redo the graphics. Or maybe that new graphics card we keep hearing
about (there goes even more of your market).
The SNES has several extra pieces of hardware the IIgs doesn't that
really makes a difference here, since Wolf 3D is mostly brute
force. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm saying it's definitely
non-trivial, and they'll get a much better return on their investment
by writing for the PC, since they're guaranteed to sell megacopies of
anything they make for that system, thanks to their reputation.
On the other hand, it's quite possible that if a reputable IIgs
developer approached them about doing all the conversion, sales, and
distribution work and signed all the appropriate documents (so the
source code didn't get out) that they might agree to that. Like The
Tinies.
