It _will_ run on an IBM joystick connector... the electrics (but not the
pinouts) are very similar! I have a friend who uses an Apple joystick with
an adaptor cable to connect to his '286

The 16 pin connector inside an Apple II, +, e, GS (NOT IIc) has pinouts
thusly:

1	+5 volts (not more than 100ma)
2	Paddle button 0
3	""""""""""""" 1
4	""""""""""""" 2
5	strobe output (line goes low when read or write of location $C040)
6	Paddle 0 (joystick 1 x coord, I think)
7	Paddle 1 (joystick 1 y coord)
8	ground
9	not connected
10	Paddle 2 (joystick 2 x coord)
11	Paddle 3 (joystick 2 y coord)
12	annunciator 3 (std 74LS TTL outputs)(to trigger, say, a TTL relay)
13	annunciator 2
14	annunciator 1
15	annunciator 0
16	not connected
