Here's my INIT string for my USRobotics 14.4k Sportster:
 
AT&FX4&H2&B1&I2&K3&M4S38=254
 
This is only for software flow control...if you have hardware handshaking,
change the &H2 to &H1.  The only thing B0 (default!) does is "answer V.32 bis
calls" (page 3-14).  B1 is used to screen out >2400bps calls.
 
If your modem ever screws up, type ATI6 to find out what happened.
