I have a similar problem too. I used to have a Maxtor LXT-213-SY, which
works perfectly with my 3.0.1e RF. I recently switched to a Maxtor
XT-8760-S, I'm have lots of minor problems. Hitting error $0C every
time I transfer large amount of data; like transferring files from
CD-ROM to HD, backing up, or restoring from tape drive, or optimizing
the HD.
Lot of time it would just lose configuration _during_ normal computer use;
so RamFAST ROM would take the second device, and my usualy second partition
would dis-appear. I really don't think my cables are the problem, I've
reported this to Jawaid, but he said he haven't really found out what
causes error $0C yet (it means RF & SCSI devices are out of sync I think).
It is very annoying right now because I can't use the tape backup or
optimize my HD... Since I never had this kind of problem with the LXT,
I guess it is possible the 8760 is at fault. But... hmm, maybe I'll
get rid of it and buy a different drive.
For the record, my SCSI devices are fitted in a mini-tower PC case, with
a long internal ribbon cable which has 50-pin centronics are both ends,
and 5 or 6 internal 50-ribbon connectors in between. It is hooked up
to the RF at one end, with an external terminator at the other. RF
supplies the termination power. (with the jumper off, it'd produce $0E,
SCSI cable/termination error)
