I just checked the USR Sportster 14.4k Fax/Modem manual.  It uses the
Class 1 Group III protocol.  I _sure_ hope that the upcoming fax software
will still work with this hardware; I'm not about to buy another fax
modem if this is not the case.

Please take this as a strong hint.
