APPLEWORKS Q.: large data base in memory??

IIE: HOW TO GET LARGE DATA BASE INTO MEMORY FOR APPLEWORKS
       ===========================================================

Here is a question for you Appleworks experts out there.

I have a IIe with two large memory cards so I cant understand why I
am getting a "memory shortage" statement.

I have 1024K in the aux slot (Sequential Systems card), plus
768K on a RamFactor card in slot 7 which I use as a ram disk. Slot
6 has the Apple high speed SCSI card, connected to a 52 meg hard disk,
partitioned as S6D1 and S6D2. Thus I think I ought to be IMMUNE from
"not enough memory" messages!

I am trying to load from a 3.5" disk a large data base (458K) for
COMPUTIST magazine. This database disk is an index for all the articles
ever published in this important magazine.

When I loaded the database into the RAM disk, I got this error message:

"This file exceeds the limits of Appleworks on this Apple //"

BTW, I am using Appleworks v.2.0 .

What can I do? Which memory card is guilty of the limitation, the aux slot
1024K card or the slot 7 768K card?

BTW, I do have enough RAM chips to fill out the Ramfactor to 1024K, but I
have found that when that card is fully populated I will get various errors.
(Maybe my heavy-duty power supply gets overloaded?? I have all slots
occupied
except for slot #3.)

ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED!

Please give me a step-by-step set of instructions for loading the 458K
database,
I am eager to read it!!

I am not very fluent with Appleworks, having never yet been able to get it to
operate my daisy wheel printers smoothly. (My word processor is Bank Street
Writer Plus, which haas many great features but is limited by its 18K desktop.
If anyone has customized Bank Street Writer to recognize an expanded Desktop,
I will be keen to learn about it!)

Thanks. sebugg@presby.edu
