Re: Ace?
The ACE 1000, 1100 and 1200 are all the same computer. They are equivalent
to a 64K Apple ][+ with hardware upper and lowercase display.
The 1000 was just the motherboard, keyboard, case, power supply. The 1100
added an ACE 10 disk drive in a special top that replaced the standard top
for the CPU case. The 1200 had two drives in the special top.
Early ACE 1x00 (Rev. A motherboard) were black and white. used specific
pixel patterns instead of colors. The later motherboards (Rev. [] {box}
and later) were full color. (I've had one of each.)
The ACE 2x00 series were supposed to be 128K-//e compatible, but they were
very poor. Only had 3 expansion slots, proprietary expansion connector for
disk drives, etc. The black case looked sharp, but it was a waste.
The ACE 1x00 series can run all versions of ProDOS up to v1.9 with some
simple patches. I understand that if a 65c02 is installed, it will run
ProDOS 2.x, again with those same simple patches.
I still have an ACE 1000 Rev. [] chugging away at home. (My dad uses it
occasionally.) Very nice machine.
