That delay happens when the IIGS is looking for some remote volume over
Appletalk. If you have set up your preferences such that a volume will be
automatically opened up on boot, it will look for that volume, then give
up if it can't find it.
If you've never been on an Appletalk net, I think your system software
may be slightly off. Try re-installing it, and remember that System 6.0.1's
installer puts some parts of the Appletalk software on your system in the
standard setup. Look around in your system folder on your boot disk and
trash anything that looks like it's related to appletalk.
