Disk II write-protect?

I just picked up a pair of Disk II's and noticed something strange: In ProDOS,
when I try to write to a write-protected disk on my DuoDisk, I get the correct
write protected error message, but when I try the same thing on a Disk II,
I get "PATH NOT FOUND". Why does this happen, and more importantly how do I
go about fixing it?
