Not really.  You are supposed to have 1 MB to use System 6.0 or later,
whether you are booting from floppy or hard drive.

You will need more memory if you want to take advantage of some of the
new features in System 6.x, such as the HFS File System Translator or
lots of sounds, or if you want to run large applications like
AppleWorks GS or HyperCard IIgs.

I'd recommend at least 2 megabytes.  A 4 MB memory card is only about
US$120 (less if you look in the right places).
