Odd behavior of Disk II in a GS

Now this is something truely odd that just started happening in my GS. I
had all unnecessary cards pulled due to a flakey power-supply (still!),
but then I decided to re-attach my Disk II. I've never bothered to get the
little connector/adapter that let's me daisy chain it, so I'm still using
the Disk II controller card. (Anybody have one of these adapters they'd
like to part with?)

Anyways, I plugged the controller into slot 6, and typed PR#6 from a basic
prompt. The computer locked up. So, I shutdown and moved the card to slot
7. Again, from a basic prompt, I type PR#7, and it works. Now I'm bummed
out because I figure something is wrong with my GS. But here's the
completely weird part. The next time I go to boot the drive, I type PR#6,
out of habit, and say 'oops' as a hit return, but to my amazement, the
drive boots anyhow!

So it appears as if my slot 6 has mapped itself to slot 7, or something
like that, anyhow.

Here's the lowdown of my system:

Slot one: generic printer card, but same thing happens with or without it.
Slot two: set for modem port, SupraModem 2400 plugged in.
          (I didn't think of unplugging this and trying 'til just now)
slot three: empty
slot four: TransWarp GS
           (same thing happens no matter what speed setting. I don't
           really want to pull this unless I have to.)
slot five: empty
slot six: empty (set to 'your card', of course)
slot seven: disk II controller (set to 'your card', also)

So, anybody ever heard of any such behavior before??
