I think the reason that the Apple side usually ended up winning was
(no offense intended here) that the users were usually more intelligent.

Since the C64 had better graphics (with sprites) and good sound (for the
time, coming from the monitor or not :). It was mostly a game machine. A
really lame operating system, 40 column display and gimpy peripherals
also kept it from being used for anything too serious.

Today you see the same kind of mentality (computer warz) being played out
between PC users and Amigas. Go figure.
