ZipGS 8/16 Upgrade

I have just bought the SRAM chips to increase my ZipGS's cache to 64K. But these
are narrow chips and the Word around here a few months ago was that adaptors
didn't work with low power SRAM. Mine are CMOS so that's probably that for adaptors.
I am considering spreading the pins out horizontally and soldering the chips to the back of the sockets (observing pin numbering, of course). Anyonr else tried this
and lived?
(Overruns and typos... I must be tired...)
Thanks and Regds,
Peter M.
