The chip doesn't go faster by increasing the voltage ... it just makes it
more stable at a given speed. The faster a chip runs, the more power it
drains/needs. Ofr high speeds, a higher voltage can help a lot to stabilize
things.
Hmm, related question: I finally got me LM217H (equal to LM317H) to
replace my makeshift 7805 construction .... but my formular for Vout seems
to be wrong. I suspect this because I used the formula I get to calculate
an LM317 circuit which I knew worked and which I knew the output
voltage of, and I got different results.
What I got is:
Vout = Vref * (1 + (R2 / R1))
Where R2 is the one between Ref and Gnd, and R1 is the one between Ref
and Out. (Ref is the Reference Pin, or Calibration, or whatever you want
to call it). Vref is 1.25V.
As I said, that doesn't compute. Anyone have a different formula, or is
that indeed the right one?
